Live! In Person!

This morning, my student was explaining that they had gone down to LA for the weekend. Upon hearing the news that they may stop at a hotel on the way back, they protested and demanded they get back that same day so they wouldn’t miss any Outside School. It made me feel really good to be providing a program they couldn’t get back to! 💞

I’m having my first Meet and Greet in ages, and my only one before the 2024 - 2025 school year. It’s coming up this Friday (3/22/24)! I would love it and appreciate it greatly if you will help spread the word. Information is below, and you’re welcome to download and share the photo below.

That’s not the only “Live! In Person!” thing. We’re people, out and about in the real, live world every day at Outside School. It’s certainly something to celebrate, being alive.

Mystery Slugs!

So, there are often “offerings” left in the park- pennies, coconut cake, flowers, dead roosters… We recently arrived to find a pile of corn on the cob next to the trail, then a candy pack, then a piece of bread. Then it turned out a banana slug was hanging out, eating the bread! And, another was on its way! We never see banana slugs at this location. How did they know about the bread?!?! And just look at what an organized fashion its proceeding in! 🤎

Slug buddy on its way!

Newt Report

This week we saw the newts for the very first time this season (March 19, 2024)! It’s hard to say if they’ve been underwater, out of sight in the murkiness, or they are newly arrived, having waited until Wildcat Creek was less turbulent. This one, a gravid female, surprised us by swimming right on up as we were eating our lunches:

Inspiration and Resources

Fire

Are you an outdoor educator who uses fire in your work? There’s a research study that can use your input, “Perspectives on Embracing Fire as a Loose Part.”

LIT Mom

I was working this past weekend with a woman with a really cool website in support of Black mothers like herself. There’s even support for those who are mother-like, without having children of their own. “Living In The MOMent, better known as LITMOM is a lifestyle brand and community designed to uplift, inspire and celebrate Black MOMs! Our mission is centered in elevating our stories, empowering our voices and amplifying our experiences.”

Sports Basement

Awhile back, the new marketing manager for the East Bay’s Sports Basement stores contacted me to see how we can work as partners. He offered their free community spaces, so I took him up on that for the Meet and Greet. I asked I could get coupons for the Meet and Greet. I am going to have paper copies of these there, but feel free to use them. I’m a big fan of the Kamik boots for kids- maybe this coupon can be your chance to get them cheaper. I’m not sure they’re in stock in the store, but they do have them on their website.

Take care,

Heather
